Health & Wellness

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation and the Mets are committed to funding programs within the community that have a positive effect on the health & wellness of all individuals. From healthy eating to exercise, the programs the Foundation supports and the programs the Mets have established enable New Yorkers to prioritize a healthy lifestyle.

Since June 2021…

over $1.2 million in grants have been distributed to organizations that support health & wellness.

Eat Smart

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation and GrowNYC have partnered on Eat Smart with the Mets, a nutrition education initiative that encourages healthy eating habits and provides young students with foundational knowledge about nutrition and sustainability.

At the heart of the program is GrowNYC’s Seed to Plate curriculum, which tells the story of local food and its importance to our health, environment, and communities, empowering students to make healthy food choices and become environmental stewards.

Participating schools engage in a series of ten interactive lessons that may include visits to local greenmarkets, explorations of nearby farms, hands-on cooking activities, and discussions on the value of a balanced diet.

Mets on the Move

Mets on the Move, presented by the Hospital for Special Surgery, is a fitness initiative dedicated to keeping kids active and healthy. Each year, the Mets partner with local elementary schools to engage thousands of students in fun, movement-focused activities that promote lifelong wellness.

The program launches each spring to align with National Physical Fitness and Sports Month. Participating students receive pedometer watches to track their steps, with opportunities to earn Mets-themed prizes as they stay active and meet personal fitness goals.

Through the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, grants are provided to local organizations offering year-round youth fitness and wellness programs. Support has included funding for initiatives like New York Edge’s Girls L.E.A.D. program, new gym equipment and athletic gear for after-school sports, and summer camp programming at the Flushing YMCA, all aimed at inspiring healthy habits and active lifestyles for children in our communities.

Mindfulness with the Mets

Mindfulness with the Mets is a wellness initiative created to support the mental health of young people in our community. The program encourages students to explore the importance of mental well-being, develop positive thinking habits, and learn strategies to ease anxiety and manage emotional challenges.

Through the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, grants have supported programs like Girls Inc.’s “Mind Body Matters” initiative at Astoria Women’s Leadership School, which helps students build mental resilience through mindfulness and wellness education.

The Foundation also funds mental health services through local partners, including the Child Center of NY. At their center in Woodside, Queens, licensed professionals provide therapy and substance abuse support to children and adolescents, including those in foster care, ensuring critical access to care and support in a safe, welcoming environment.

Farmstand Business Curriculum

The Mets and 1PointFive proudly support GrowNYC’s Farmstand Business Curriculum, an educational initiative that empowers school communities to explore the local food system and expand access to fresh, healthy food in New York City.

Rooted in GrowNYC’s decades-long commitment to food justice and sustainability, the program helps students extend the impact of their school gardens into their communities—while developing real-world business and entrepreneurial skills.

The curriculum also serves as a launchpad for green career pathways, encouraging students to apply for GrowNYC’s Workforce Development Program—a hands-on opportunity for youth ages 16–19 to gain practical experience in food, farming, and sustainability-focused careers.
