Mets Community Insider: A Look Back At October
STEM IN BASEBALL
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s STEM in Baseball program delivers an innovative approach to STEM education by connecting the fundamentals of baseball with essential science, technology, engineering, and math concepts.
Designed to inspire students and support educators, the program provides engaging, hands-on learning experiences that make STEM subjects relevant, fun, and accessible for students throughout New York City.
Foundation grantee, Science of Sport, trains 80 math and science teachers annually, equipping them with the knowledge and tools to bring sports-based STEM lessons into their classrooms. Each educator receives access to an online portal with standards-aligned lessons, worksheets, and digital resources, along with a comprehensive STEM Kit that includes both classroom materials and sporting equipment.
The program reaches approximately 8,000 students each year, providing opportunities to explore physics, engineering, and math through baseball-themed challenges that promote critical thinking, collaboration, and problem-solving.
To kick off the program, the Foundation and Science of Sport hosted teachers from participating schools to introduce the curriculum and deliver hands-on STEM training in dynamic, real-world contexts.
SENIOR SMILES
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s Senior Smiles program provides support, resources, and activities that bring joy to older adults in our community.
The Foundation engages with local nonprofit organizations and hosts interactive events at their centers such as games of bingo, meal service, and art and fitness classes.
In October, the Foundation brought the spirit of Halloween to seniors at Carter Burden Network, a Foundation grantee, with a pumpkin painting art class.
FUN AT BAT
Amazin’ Mets Foundation grantee, USA Baseball, helps bring the Fun at Bat program to schools across the Tri-State area.
Fun At Bat is a free program designed for K-5 students, offering a unique opportunity to learn the fundamentals of baseball while also focusing on character development, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This program is easy to implement and provides educators with all the resources they need, including lesson plans, equipment, and training.
