CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS MONTH

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and each September, Major League Baseball (MLB) teams up with the Starlight Children’s Foundation (Starlight) for a special event dedicated to bringing joy to children facing cancer at local hospitals in the areas of all 30 Clubs.

This year, the New York Mets, MLB, and Starlight Children’s Foundation joined forces and donated a Nintendo Switch for the children to enjoy at Cohen Children’s Medical Center. The event also featured a visit from Mr. and Mrs. Met.

AMAZIN’ METS FOUNDATION HOSTS JUNIOR METS BASEBALL CLINIC

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation hosted a free Junior Mets baseball clinic, welcoming 60 youth athletes from local little leagues across Queens to Citi Field.

The participants, ages 9 and 10, took the field to sharpen their hitting, baserunning, and fielding skills with guidance from Mets front office staff.

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation has hosted more than 15 Junior Mets free baseball clinics since 2021. The Junior Mets Baseball Program strives to introduce the game of baseball to the youth in the community at an early age, looks to create access for underserved groups, and develop skills and fundamentals to help children foster a love for the game and create a pathway for the future of the sport.

50/50 BENEFICIARIES

As part of the Mets’ final homestand of the regular season, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation hosted two special raffles to support local nonprofit grantees.

Proceeds from the Tuesday, September 16 raffle, held in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Night, benefited The Tacombi Foundation. Dedicated to food access and workforce development, the organization has provided over one million meals to communities in need and helps prepare underserved individuals for careers in the hospitality industry through training, mentorship, and job placement.

The following evening, on Wednesday, September 17, the raffle supported Friends of Firefighters. The nonprofit offers free, confidential, and independent mental health counseling and wellness services to active and retired FDNY firefighters and their families.

The Amazin’ Mets Foundation’s 50/50 raffle program gives fans the opportunity to win cash prizes while supporting important work in our community.
