Mets Community Insider: A Look Back At August
AMAZIN’ METS FOUNDATION RECOGNIZED AT LITTLE LEAGUE WORLD SERIES
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation is proud to foster a love of baseball by promoting play, donating equipment, increasing awareness, and supporting skills development. Before the 2025 MLB Little League Classic, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, led by Mets Owner and Foundation President, Alex Cohen, was recognized for their contributions to growing and supporting Little League programs and youth baseball and softball.
Foundation Head, Jane Son, threw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Hawaii vs. Illinois game at the Little League World Series.
SARAH LANGS HONORED WITH AMAZIN’ METS FOUNDATION LEGACY AWARD
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation awarded the third annual Legacy Award to renowned baseball researcher and ALS advocate Sarah Langs during a pregame ceremony at Citi Field on Wednesday, August 6.
Created by Alex Cohen, the Legacy Award honors individuals and organizations in the baseball community who exemplify courage, dedication, and a lasting commitment to making a positive impact both on and off the field.
Sarah’s parents, Charles and Liise-anne, each accepted a custom Mets jersey on her behalf during a special press conference room presentation alongside Manager Carlos Mendoza. Later, Charles took the field to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. To further honor Sarah’s advocacy, the Foundation made a $5,000 donation to Project ALS, supporting ongoing research and awareness efforts.
The award is the latest in a growing tradition by the Amazin’ Mets Foundation to recognize trailblazers in the baseball community. Past recipients include Maybelle Blair (2023), a pioneering advocate for women’s baseball, and the Louisville Slugger Warriors Amputee Baseball Team (2024), a team of amputee athletes — including both military veterans and civilians — who exemplify resilience and determination through sport.
METS IN THE COMMUNITY NIGHT
On August 13, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation invited more than 1,000 individuals from its grantee network to Citi Field for Mets in the Community Night. Representatives from Foundation grantees: Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning, Building Skills NY, NYC Police Athletic League, Coalition for the Homeless, Women in Need, Rescuing Leftover Cuisine, NYC Kids RISE, Bedtime Beyond, and Sunnyside Community Services, participated in pre-game and in-game activations.
The evening also featured a special gate giveaway – a Mrs. Mets Gives Back bobblehead – and some lucky fans received theirs directly from Alex Cohen, who was on hand to help hand them out in the Jackie Robinson Rotunda.
Since its inception in 2021, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation has funded over $17 million in grants to more than 200 organizations in the community, including the communities surrounding affiliate teams.
JUNIOR METS GIRLS BASEBALL CLINIC
The Amazin’ Mets Foundation and SNY welcomed 60 talented female athletes from little leagues and youth organizations across New York City for a Junior Mets girls baseball clinic at Citi Field.
The girls, ages 10 to 12, joined Mets alum Todd Zeile on the field to sharpen their hitting, baserunning, and fielding skills, with guidance from Mets front office staff.
Each athlete also received a special gift, thanks to Topps, who generously donated baseball cards for the event.
BACK-TO-SCHOOL
As students prepare for the upcoming school year, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation supported local youth with essential resources for academic success.
To help meet back-to-school needs, the Foundation awarded a $200,000 grant to New York Cares, which funded the purchase and distribution of 12,000 new backpacks filled with school supplies. These backpacks were delivered to nonprofit organizations serving communities across New York City.
