The Amazin’ Mets Foundation partnered with America’s Vet Dogs during the 2022 season to sponsor and co-raise a service dog in-training. Shea, named in a fan voting contest, spent 16 months as part of the Mets family and regularly visited Citi Field. During formal training, Shea worked daily with a Certified Service Dog Instructor to learn skills that will assist in mitigating his first responder’s disabilities. Upon completion, Shea will officially be paired with his first responder, retired NYPD officer Richie Carter, on Thursday evening. Richie dedicated 20 years of service to our city and spent over 250 grueling hours at Ground Zero following the attacks of September 11, 2001.
